At St. Thomas More Catholic Primary School, we recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life. As one of the core subjects taught in primary schools, we give the teaching and learning of science the prominence it requires.
Science is an active subject with many opportunities for hands on learning experiences; the opportunity to explore, investigate and reason through scientific enquiry. Science is woven into the curriculum to link with other subject areas giving children the opportunity to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding in meaningful context, which can be applied to other areas of the curriculum.
Science is often child led with planned opportunities for children to direct their own learning through different types of science enquiries. Children are encouraged to ask their own questions and to explore their own answers by collecting evidence to justify and explain their thoughts. Science promotes skills in independence and inquisitiveness; broadening and shaping minds.
